Maintaining Your Pre-Owned Sirona Orthophos XG3 or XG5 System
Pre-owned Sirona Orthophos XG panoramic X-ray machines from Renew Digital are built to last, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need a little T.L.C. Even though your certified pre-owned Sirona XG3 or Sirona XG5 panoramic X-ray was fully tested during installation, it will still need regular maintenance so that it stays in prime condition and your patient images remain at the highest quality possible. Here are a few tips from the manufacturer and Renew Digital for keeping your used Sirona X-ray machine in the best possible working order.
Owner Maintenance
Your certified pre-owned Sirona panoramic X-ray should be visually inspected by the owner or other authorized individual at least once a year. Follow the steps below to conduct this brief but important annual review:
Technical Documents: Do you have all of the required technical documents such as Operating Instructions for your Sirona Orthophos XG3 or Sirona Orthophos XG5 dental panoramic X-ray and are they stored in a safe but accessible place? Renew Digital can provide digital versions of these documents that you can keep on your desktop for fast and efficient access.
Accessories: Do you have all of the accessories supplied with your Sirona X-ray machine? Are they in good shape or do they appear cracked or worn? Check the biteblocks, joint supports, ear holders, forehead and temple supports, chin rest, and any other accessories and order replacements from your dental dealer if necessary.
Unit Surfaces: Inspect all surfaces of the X-ray machine. Are all parts tightly attached and affixed? Are all screws in place? Are the covers and mirrors free from damage or scratches? Are the covers clean and dust-free? Make sure you clean the unit with safe and recommended solutions to avoid damage to the covers and other plastic components.
X-Ray Tubehead: The tubehead is what generates radiation to capture X-rays. Make sure that the tubehead area is clean and visibly oil-free. It is critical that any oil leaks, no matter how minor, are reported to Renew Digital immediately.
Electrical and Structural Safety: Inspect all electrical cables and cords to ensure they are free from damage. Ensure that all screws that fasten the dental X-ray machine to the wall and/or support bracket are tightly secured.
Exposure Safety: Make sure that your Sirona X-ray machine is running error-free and that the optical and acoustic signals are present when radiation is emitted. Check to make sure that image capture is immediately interrupted when the radiation exposure button is released. Listen carefully to the rotational movement to make sure it does not make any loud sounds or grinding noises.
Key Functionality: Check the unit's Multipad. Is it positioned properly and does it stay in position when moved? Is the membrane free from cracks and holes? Are all of the numbers and letters visible and legible?
Light Localizer: Are both vertical and horizontal light beams visible? Can the position of the horizontal beam be changed and will it remain as set?
Sensor Functionality: Can the sensor be easily removed and re-inserted? Does it fit snugly into the receptacle?
Image Quality: Review recent patient images vs. images taken around the time of the last inspection. Has there been any degradation in image quality?
Height Adjustment: Does the Sirona dental X-ray machine emit a sound when the height is adjusted? Does the adjustment work smoothly without jerking, sticking, or making unusual noises? Does the height setting remain stable even if the machine is switched off?
After conducting each annual visual inspection, make sure you check off each item and save a copy for your state inspection records. Contact Renew Digital Support if you find any issues for guidance and next steps.
Service Provider Maintenance
In addition to the annual owner inspection, the manufacturer recommends that safety checks be performed on your pre-owned Sirona Orthophos XG panoramic X-ray machine by an authorized service provider at 4, 7, and 10 years from the manufacture date and then bi-annually after the equipment is 10 years old. Some states also require that X-ray machines be inspected at certain state-mandated intervals in addition to manufacturer recommendations. Be sure to check with your state for all guidelines relative to equipment maintenance protocols.
Routine service provider inspections should include the following:
- Safety Check
- System Label Check
- Serial Number Check
- Functional Test
- X-Ray Exposure Test
- Tubehead Check
- Diaphragm Check
- Cable Check
Your Renew Digital warranty does not cover system maintenance. Be sure to contact your local dealer to schedule routine maintenance or contact Renew Digital Support for service provider recommendations.
