For over 10 years, Renew Digital has helped dentists and specialists with practice digitization by making high-quality 2D and 3D dental X-ray machines more affordable with our extensive offering of certified pre-owned dental imaging equipment.
Working alongside practices just like yours makes us very selective about which products we choose to offer, preferring to work with brands that really deliver great performance. Our sales representatives have extensive years of field experience and an obsessive level of customer service to recommend the right imaging equipment to serve the needs of your practice.
Today, we’ve asked one of our experts, Frank Tagye, to answer a few common questions to help those who are looking for affordable 2D panoramic X-ray machines, but are unsure where to start their search. Frank has spent the last 15+ years working with dental practices, so he knows a thing or two about panoramic imaging.
Frank, there are so many panoramic X-ray machines available, which would you recommend for my practice?
I speak with lots of practices who need to think about their office space when they’re considering a purchase. If they’re shopping 2D panoramic, I often recommend the Carestream CS 8100 for an office with a super tight space. The CS 8100 has a very slim profile and produces great images..
I get great feedback from practices I recommend the CS 8100 to, typically giving positive reviews on it’s intuitive design and functionality. It is also versatile with upgradeable features like the cephalometric attachment and optional 3D cone beam imaging capabilities.
When I speak with pediatric dentists, I know they’re going to have unique imaging needs because they have younger patients. Two features that stand out: an extraoral bitewing option and child-specific pano settings.
Based on my experience working with pediatric offices, the Planmeca ProMax S3 is one of my top recommendations because of their extraoral bitewing program. The Planmeca ProMax was the first to offer extraoral bitewings and they are still the best at it. Bitewings are a fast and efficient alternative to conventional intraoral X-rays, especially for the smaller kiddos that aren’t comfortable with a typical intraoral sensor.
The Planmeca ProMax features a panoramic mode that offers a kid sized panoramic image with lower dose to the patient, something that parents always appreciate.
The ProMax S3 is also ideal with it’s compact design, fitting into most any pediatric practice configuration. Plus, we offer the ProMax S3 in any calibration to your current and future needs - whether you only need a panoramic today or you are looking for a system with cephalometric and/or cone beam imaging capabilities. Because the ProMax is so versatile, many pediatric offices I’ve worked with can keep their machine for years, adding upgrades as necessary, to grow with their practice.
Dental and dental specialist practices in rural areas have additional challenges they need to consider in order to provide great service to their patients. In the 2D panoramic category, Sirona’s Orthophos XG3, Orthophos XG5 and Orthophos XG 3D Ready are my top recommendations for a rural office because of the reliability they have shown us over the last 10+ years. This is German-engineering at it’s finest with over 100,000 units installed worldwide. While you may be considering other brands, Sirona offers peace of mind that their company will be around for the long haul, so you know you can depend on their support.
Most dentists I speak with highly rate the Orthophos XG Series panorex machines for their image quality, ease of use and affordability. And, it’s easy to decide on the right one - if your imaging needs are basic pano, you will be fine with the XG3. If you are an orthodontist, go for the XG5 with it’s ceph attachment. Or, if you want top of the line, the XG 3D Ready is my preference - that machine satisfies the most advanced imaging needs including bitewings, TMJ, and Sinus.
I often hear “budget” in conversation when talking about dental imaging equipment. Certainly, this is a major purchase for your practice and you need peace of mind knowing you’ve made the right investment. Maybe you’re just getting started with digital dental imaging, or you’re opening a new location - these are typically my most budget-conscious practices.
For them, I often recommend a 2D panoramic from the KaVo family of brands. Both Instrumentarium and Gendex were recently acquired by KaVo, so we sell certified pre-owned machines that have the same features but still have the original Instrumentarium or Gendex branding - these provide a lot of value at a good price. The most comparable 2D panoramic products we sell with these brands are the Instrumentarium OP30, the Gendex GXDP-300 and the KaVo OP 2D.
Any of these products are ultra-affordable, giving you a quick and easy entry to digital 2D panoramic without compromise on key features and usability. Each offers valuable programs like extraoral bitewings, handicap accessibility and pediatric-friendly settings.
