UPDATE: As of March 2022, all KavoKerr Group products are now rebranded under the name DEXIS.
Renew Digital offers several dental X-ray machine models from many brands under the KaVoKerr Group imaging umbrella. KaVoKerr has long been an international leader in the dental imaging industry. For well over a century, they have put dental excellence at the center of what they do by manufacturing high-quality, innovative products while increasing the standards within the dental market.
When contacting Renew Digital about our used dental X-ray and cone beam machines, dentists often ask us how these brands fit within the KaVoKerr/DEXIS structure. Below please find a brief summary about the company’s history as well as a listing of some of their more popular dental X-ray and cone beam brands, also offered as certified pre-owned options with Renew Digital.
The Kerr Company was founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 1891 as the “Detroit Dental Manufacturing Company” and was officially renamed to Kerr Manufacturing Company in 1939. The KaVo Company was formed in 1909 in Berlin, Germany with the motto “Quality and precision.” Separately, these two companies developed industry-leading dental products and innovations for nearly 100 years before they were later aligned through acquisition.
KaVo joined the Danaher Corporation in 2001, and Kerr shortly thereafter in 2006, laying the groundwork for the future KaVoKerr dental platform. Danaher Corporation purchased Gendex in 2003. Under KaVoKerr Group, Danaher Corporation then acquired i-CAT, the award-winning cone beam dental manufacturer, in 2007. The company then added the Instrumentarium and Soredex imaging brands to their portfolio in 2009.
Renew Digital offers many different certified pre-owned dental X-ray and cone beam models now owned and managed through DEXIS, including the following leading manufacturers and brands.
Delivering innovations to dentists and dental specialists around the globe since 1992, many members of the dental community consider i-CAT dental equipment to be the standard for dental 3D imaging technology. Renew Digital offers several used i-CAT dental cone beam models in a variety of field of views and options to meet the needs of just about any dental or dental specialty practice.
Gendex can trace its dental X-ray machine history back to 1893. The Victor Electronic Company based in Chicago, Illinois, was one of the earliest US X-ray machine manufacturers. Victor merged with General Electric in 1920 where it continued to develop and improve its dental and medical imaging technology. The GE Company split its dental and medical lines in 1983, forming Gendex to manufacture and represent its dental imaging products. Gendex soon became one of the worldwide industry leaders in developing high-quality intraoral and extraoral dental X-ray technology. Today, Renew Digital offers several pre-owned Gendex panoramic or dental cone beam models at affordable prices.
Palomex Oy, a dental radiography manufacturer based in Finland, was founded in 1964. In 1966, the company introduced the Orthopantomograph OP1, the first panoramic dental X-machine to take a panorex image in a single exposure. Instrumentarium, a Finnish optics and medical equipment company, acquired Palomex Oy in 1977. The company was then renamed Instrumentarium Imaging in 1988. The Instrumentarium Corporation acquired Soredex in 2001, then General Electric acquired Instrumentarium in 2003. Take a look at our wide selection of pre-owned Instrumentarium models from Renew Digital.
Soredex, also a Finnish dental imaging company, originated in 1977. In 1978, Soredex became the first company to produce a panoramic X-ray (Soredex Cranex DC) equipped with a high-frequency generator. These small generators enabled fast and accurate regulation of X-ray radiation output, becoming the industry standard for the production of panoramic X-ray machines. Soredex was purchased by the Finnish Orion Corporation in 1980, and Orion Corporation/Soredex launched the Scanora extraoral imaging device in 1988. The Scanora was the first dental X-ray system to combine panoramic and tomographic radiography in one extraoral dental imaging system. Soredex was then sold to the Instrumentarium Corporation in 2001. Renew Digital offers several pre-owned Soredex dental X-ray models, including successors of the original Soredex Cranex system.
In 2018, KaVo Kerr launched its own line of dental imaging equipment, all under the KaVo brand. The KaVo OP 3D series includes panoramic, pano + ceph, and CBCT modalities. Each unit has all of the features and reliability you need to provide excellent dental care to your patients. Take a look at our selection of KaVo panoramic dental X-ray and cone beam models.
