What You Need to Know About the KaVo OP 3D Pro

Written by Sam Saidman | March 23, 2021

The Orthopantomograph OP 3D Pro panoramic and cone beam system from KaVo includes many innovative and technologically advanced features to help streamline image workflow and enhance patient safety. Let’s take a look at just some of these state-of-the-art functions that enable KaVo dental X-ray machines to deliver consistently high-quality digital panoramic and dental cone beam images each and every time.

Panoramic Imaging Innovations

Automatic Dose Control (ADC) automatically adjusts the exposure levels for each patient so you don’t have to worry about selecting the exposure values manually. This optimization leads to enhanced workflow efficiency with a 9 second exposure time, increased patient comfort, and the reduction of risk in patient movement.

Orthofocus for Panoramic Programs helps choose the best panoramic layer for each capture. It scans the patient’s dental arch, then searches each image pixel and selects the sharpest point of a location on the image to combine its findings to create an optimal panoramic image. You’ll get consistently high-quality panoramic images, higher tolerance for patient positioning issues, and faster workflows with lower risk of retakes.

Multilayer Panoramic gives you five images with one scan. This reduces the amount of retakes and exposure for a difficult malocclusion or patient positioning error. They take the same amount of time and use the same radiation dose as a traditional panoramic scan.

V-Shaped X-ray Beam ensures a homogeneous image by adapting to the human anatomy. This beam provides greater detail, a wider mandibular image layer, and more power to penetrate the thick maxilla area.

Dental Cone Beam Imaging Innovations

Multiple CBCT Resolution Selection

Depending on the age and size of your patient or the clinical application, the KaVo OP 3D Pro allows you to select the ideal cone beam resolution option.

Low Dose Technology (LDT) is ideal for dose-sensitive cases, control, or follow-up situations where the maximum level of radiation is not required.

The standard resolution scan only takes 10 seconds total, with 2.3 seconds of exposure time.

High resolution scans provide the sharpest, clearest images to make a detailed diagnosis.

An endo resolution scan has the smallest FOV at 80 μm voxel size and MAR, and 5 cm diameter. This option is designed for applications that require high accuracy and clinical detail.

Smartview Scout Scan

Taking a 2D scout image before a CBCT exam allows you to adjust the target position from the GUI screen. You’re guaranteed precise positioning which eliminates the need for retakes and additional exposures.

Free Field-of-View Positioning

Having the KaVo OP 3D Pro means you don’t have to compromise FOV positioning. The FOV can be horizontally positioned from the user interface, or vertically using the motorized movements of the chinrest.

With one click in the dentition view, the KaVo OP 3D can automatically suggest an appropriate FOV size. This improves workflow and saves time.

The OP 3D has four pre-defined FOVs which are based on real clinical needs and are customizable. Smartview 2.0 allows you to select your FOV diameter and location, and adjust the height between 5 and 9 cm.
