Renew Digital Staff Spotlight: Ali Dawood

Ali Dawood is a Technical Director here with Renew Digital. Today, we sit down with Ali to learn about his experience and why he loves working with us.

Who is Ali?

My background in dentistry started with Renew Digital about 10 years ago in 2012. I started out as a lab technician building computers for X-rays. Along the way I've learned many imaging and practice management softwares.

Now, who is the real, outside-the-dental-world Ali?

Outside of work, away from my work life, I have two boys ages 2 and 5. And I have a beautiful wife and we just recently bought a home that's keeping this company renovating for the past about 5-6 months.

How did you land at Renew Digital?

Renew Digital, it was either destiny or just luck. I was part-time at Fry's electronics and Bryan came, one of the founders, Bryan came in looking for a home router. He was very impressed with my network knowledge and a couple days after he left decided to offer me an interview, and I took the bite. Here I am, 10 years, later as the Technical Director.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Something interesting about me is I've never set the alarm either to wake up, or go to a meeting, or come to work. I never set the alarm.

What is your favorite thing about working for Renew Digital?

One of the interesting things that I really like about Renew Digital is an "open door policy". I feel like every discussion is very open with anyone, I can walk into Bryan or Lyle's office any time of the day and just talk whatever I have on my mind.

A quote you live by?

You've probably heard that this one, it is by Jim Lovell. The quote is: "3 types of people in the world: first ones make things happen, and there are second ones that watch things happen, and then there are people who wonder what happened. And if you want to be successful you have to be the ones making things happen."

How would your co-workers describe you?

My co-workers would probably say (and complain) about me is they never see me off the phone. Whether that's walking in the morning you know to my office, or leaving late night, I usually spend most of my time on the phone.

Dogs or Cats?

My sons love dogs, my wife's always wanted a dog. I never really had a preference myself.

If you weren’t at Renew, what would you be doing?

If I was not at Renew.. I see myself as a pharmacist. I took 1-2 years of pharma courses before I started speaking with Bryan and I just found dental and dental IT way more interesting than standing behind the desk filling prescriptions.
